Why Social Media?

Finding the right medium to engage with your customers, clients or prospects is more important than ever and the explosion of social media as a means to connect has reached critical mass. Even in the business-to-business sector, the importance of social media is growing quickly. According to a recent eMarketer article, “B2B participation in social media marketing is steadily increasing, and marketers are beginning to see opportunities to generate quality leads and position themselves as thought leaders in their industries.” Read more.

This week, I had a chance to review a great social media presentation from the marketing folks at CareerBuilder.com and did a bit of poking around on eMarketer.com looking for some other trends in social media to share. Here are a few highlights:

– 86% of companies plan to increase social media spending in 2010

– Studies show that small businesses that blog get 55% more website visitors

– Forrester Research predicts that B2B firms will spend $54 million on social media marketing in 2014, up from just $11 million in 2009

– 57.5% of all US Internet users, or 127 million people, will use a social network at least once a month in 2010. By 2014, nearly two-thirds of Internet users will be on board
